Established in 1978, the State Resource Centre Kashmir University has been actively engaged in Eradication of illiteracy in the state of Jammu and Kashmir by way of providing resource support in terms of:- (i) Material development (ii) Training (iii) Environment Creation (iv) Research (v) Monitoring & Evaluation and other special programmes to all the agencies working in this direction.

The SRC has been working in all the regions of the state covering all the nooks and corners in spite of the difficult Topography, weather conditions and uncertain political situations over the decades, now. Our endeavor is to create a literate educated society and also to generate awareness among masses in general and deprived sections in particular for their amelioration and upliftment.

In view of Launch of “Saakhshar Bharat” a flagship programme of Govt. of India the resource support that is being provided by the State Resource Centre to various stake holders at state, district, Block and gram Panchayat levels needed to be restructured as per new guidelines issued by NLMA, MHRD GOI and , as such, the SRC is involved in execution of the plan of action accordingly so as to achieve the targets in the stipulated time frame. The outcomes and results are documented each year for future use.

Let us sincere and solemnly pledge that all of us will work together to make our Village, Town and the entire State of J&K fully Literate and Educated so that we, our children and future generations can progress together as a Democratic, Developed and Secular Nation and live in Peace and Prosperity with Liberty and Leisure.

It is the hardwork and dedication of the staff of SRC that in addition to fulfillment of its mandate, SRC was assigned additional projects fully funded by the MHRD like monitoring of Sarva Shiksha Abhyan, Mid Day Meal Scheme, Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhyan and establishment of Model Adult Education Centers.

In the year 2012 an external evaluation of J&K SRC was conducted by Indian Adult Education Association, New Delhi as assigned by Directorate of Adult Education, Govt. of India, New Delhi, whereby SRC was upgraded from grade ‘B’ to grade ‘A’. It is really a matter of pride and prestige for the Centre and the University as well.
